Think of it this way. If a father dies and leaves an inheritance for his young children, those children are not much better often than slaves until they grow up, even though they actually own everything their father had. They have to obey their guardians until they reach whatever age their father set. And that's the way it was with us before Christ came. We were like children; we were slaves to the basic principles of this world. But when the right time came, God sent His Son, born of a woman, subject to the law. God sent Him to buy freedom for us who are slaves to the law, so that He could adopt us as His very own children. And because we are His children, God has sent the Spirit of His Son into our hearts, prompting us to call out, ABBA, Father. Now you are no longer a slave but God's own child. And since you are His child, God has made you His heir. Galatians 4:1-7
Adam and Eve's sin was like a bolt of lightning that struck the earth leaving a great divide between God and the very ones He created in His image. The ones He created for fellowship and intimacy.
At just the right time God sent His Son across that divide to take on the very flesh He had created so that we could be brought back into relationship with Him. Not just relationship, but family. Adopted and heirs of all that He is. It is a love story and a beautiful one at that.
God longs for relationship with His children, not as one who has a void which needs to be filled, but as one who has everything to share and no one to share it with. Imagine being love and not having anyone to love. Someone to pour that love into and watch it grow. To watch them flourish and become as beautiful as they were created to be.
God's children are in that process, He has sent the Spirit of His Son into our hearts to help us receive that love. To help us rid ourselves of anything and everything that would prevent us from growing in that love and experiencing Him more and more.
Heavenly Father that You for Your wonderful love. Thank you for Jesus coming to earth as Emmanuel. For Him giving His life to redeem ours. For the love You have for Your children. Thank you that we are Your heirs, not because we deserve it, but because we have been redeemed by You. What a beautiful story we have to tell. Thank You in Jesus name. AMEN
