Wait on the Lord, be of good cheer, And He shall strengthen your heart; Wait, I say, on the Lord. Psalm 27:14

To say that we are impatient today is an understatement. Waiting for anything drives us crazy. A man once said to me, since 1000 years with God is the same as one day, what good does it do us to pray and ask Him for anything? One day with Him is beyond our lifetime.

The Hebrew word used for wait is Qavah, which implies to "bind together" or "twist strands", like a rope, signifying a tight attachment, alignment, and an unbroken connection to God's strength.

Waiting on God means staying spiritually awake, praying, studying scripture, and obeying what He has already revealed. The call to wait is paired with a command to "be strong, and let your heart take courage", showing that waiting requires active faith.

David begins this Psalm by saying "The Lord is my light and my salvation; Whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? When we remember that, waiting on the Lord "cheerfully" becomes much easier.

Waiting also implies distance. Our prayers go up to Him and then we wait...But because we are already in a relationship with Him, waiting is not trying to get His attention from afar. Instead it is deepening communication, learning His voice, and resting in His presence right now.

In a time when we hate waiting for anything it is good to acknowledge that God knows the timing and outcome of things better than we do and waiting keeps us from rushing ahead, or forcing circumstances out of anxiety.

I know this is a word for me today, and I am sure it might be for you as well.

Thank You Heavenly Father for this word today. May it be the right word for someone today who as anxious about the future or outcome of something. Help us to Qavah today cheerfully. I pray in Jesus name. AMEN AMEN
