"Christ is, himself, the greatest treasure in the universe. And he has given himself to bring us back to himself, if we will only trust him and follow him." Seth Lewis
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. Proverbs 1:7
What else do we want? A fancy car that wears out as we use it? A title that someone else will claim as soon as we're gone? A bigger sitting room with a better view and designer couches? We can have the great, eternal treasure of heaven! How can any amount of earthly wealth compare? How can earthly fame compare to heaven's honor? How can earthly power compared to the privilege of reigning with Christ? The things we have here and now will never last - even our life on Earth is short.
But Jesus said it's possible for us to invest our life and everything we have into eternal treasures that cannot be destroyed. He said it's possible to "store up treasures for ourselves in heaven", which means that our investments in His kingdom now, no matter how unnoticed they are by people, are producing a reward that is better than anything money can buy on earth. Jesus said that those who are faithful with the small things God has trusted to them on Earth will be given greater responsibility in the kingdom of heaven.
Jesus said that those who humble themselves in service, like He did, will be exalted to high honor in His kingdom, like He is.
The fear of the Lord is just the beginning of wisdom. To know Him and be known by Him, is there anything greater?
Heavenly Father, the prayer of our hearts today is to know You and be known by You. To have an intimate relationship with You. We do this through Christ our Lord and Savior. Help us to surrender to His Lordship today. I pray in His name. AMEN AMEN
