Have you ever lost the sparkle in your eye? The circumstances in your life left you feeling abandoned by God. Like the Lord had turned His back to you? Then you can relate to others like King David who felt the same way.
Psalm 13 begins with David asking the question O Lord, how long will you forget me? Forever? How long will you look the other way? How long must I struggle with anguish in my soul, with sorrow in my heart every day? Turn and answer me, O Lord my God! Restore the sparkle to my eyes, or I will die.
Like David we all have times of deep distress in our lives where we're left waiting and questioning. We see David's transition as he bows before the Lord and pours out his heart honestly to the Lord. He vents all of his feelings. Even though God seemed silent David acknowledges Him as "my Lord and my God".
In the end David reflects upon all of the times when God's unfailing love was there for him. He says I will sing to the Lord because He is good to me.
I have learned in life, when we go through seasons where God feels distant and silent, we are usually the ones who have moved away from Him. For He has promised to never leave us nor abandoned us. He has said "draw near to Me and I will draw near to you." His seeming silence speaks loudly.
Heavenly Father I thank you for Psalms like this that we can relate to. Thank you that as we reflect on Your past goodness to us, all of the things that we have let come between us one by one fade away and we one again have a song in our hearts and rejoice in Your goodness and restoration. Thank you for returning the sparkle to our eyes. In Jesus name. AMEN AMEN.
