Wickedness never brings stability, but the Godly have deep roots. Proverbs 12:3

The Godly are like Alfalfa! It has probably been over 10 years since we grew Alfalfa on our acreage, but it keeps popping up in the oddest places. The NIV says the righteous cannot be uprooted. The NLT says the Godly have deep roots. It stands to reason that something with very deep roots can neither be uprooted or moved.

Alfalfa roots typically go 7-10 feet deep, but on occasion will go 15-20 and have been known to go 50 feet down in search of water should they need to. Contrast that with the ungodly whose ways are very unstable, they are easily uprooted.

I love the imagery that this verse uses to express not only the strength and security of a child of God, but the depths at which they go to get the nutrition they need spiritually. It is the imagery of the seed falling on good soil and what happens when it does.

I have tilled that ground multiple times and seeded it with various things over the years and yet a random Alfalfa plant keeps coming up. The next time I walk out there and see one I am going to think of this verse and pray that I would be rooted as deeply as that Alfalfa plant.

Heavenly Father thank you for the imagery of this verse today. May we be the Godly that this verse is talking about. May we be rooted as deeply and as stable as an Alfalfa plant. Thank you that you use things we can relate to, which helps us understand these truths. AMEN AMEN
