She watches over the ways of her household, and does not eat the bread of idleness. Proverbs 31:27

Twenty-one of the Thirty-one verses of Proverbs 31 are devoted to describing a woman who fears the Lord. She is busy to say the least. Busy watching over her household. She tends to the needs of the day, but also prepares for the future. She has a built in radar system that identifies possible needs and dangers. All the while she is busy, her husband sits at the city gate with the elders.

I recently watched a short documentary on whitetail deer. The mature doe is the Proverbs 31 woman of the deer. She determines the paths her family takes, and follows for years. She knows the way of safety and where the best forages areas are for food. She always has her nose to the wind to sense danger. She is the real trophy. The bucks are only concerned with one thing, therefore they can be oblivious to dangers and must themselves rely on the wisdom of the doe. The bucks will gather together and throw one another around to see who is the strongest all the while the mature doe is tending to her family and on alert.

When I marry a couple I always let the bride to be know that man she is marrying is just a boy in a man's body. He will rely on her instincts, her radar system, her soft power and the setting up of her home. He may at times get frustrated at the way her senses pick up things and the possible trouble she forsees, but she should not lose heart. God simply didn't make him the way he did her. He needs her instincts even if he doesn't know it.

This morning was one of those frustrating moments for me as my wife was simply inquiring about the possible dangers laying ahead for a trip we have planned. I had the typical little boy response to a mother who was warning him of the dangers lurking about if he didn't pay attention. Boys just want to have fun without thinking about the dangers ahead, right? One of the last things coming out of a boys mouth before he gets hurt is "hey mom watch this".

So this morning I needed to get into my prayer closet and read Proverbs 31 and remind myself of the jewel God has given me.

Heavenly Father thank you for the women you have put in our lives. Mothers. sisters, wives. All are blessings to us and have shaped the very paths we are walking today. I am so in awe of how you have designed women and the patience they have to put up with us boys. Thank You again for all of the women who have influenced my life. In Jesus name I pray. AMEN AMEN
