The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear the sound of it, but cannot tell where it comes from and where it goes… John 3:8
Heavenly Father there is little else in this life that reminds me of how helpless I really am than a windy day. Especially a windy night. I tie necessary things down and put away things that I think will blow away, but in the end all I can really do is retreat indoors and wait for the wind to die down. The scriptures tell me that all nature declares there is a God. I think the wind shouts it. A gentle breeze is often so welcome, but a 40 mile an hour plus wind, has me running for shelter in hopes that it will soon pass.
A gentle rain is soothing to the soul and good for a good nights sleep. Yet a howling wind is exhausting. The best of plans find themselves falling short and needing changing when the wind blows strong.
On a windy day fish head to deep water, Whitetail deer seek a secluded valley. Builders put away their tools and brace their walls, all in hopes that the strong winds will soon pass.
I am reminded of how the disciples found themselves so helpless when rowing across the sea as a ferocious wind picked up. Master, they cried, do You not care that we are perishing? With a word Jesus calmed the sea and the waves. Whoa... who is this that can calm the wind, and the waves. Seasoned fisherman knew that even after the wind ceased it took hours for the waves to slowly go down. Yet with a word the sea became like glass. Amazing, Lord.
Thank You even though windy days are exhausting they are a reminder of Your sovereignty. A reminder that there is no better place to be than with the One who controls everything, the wind included. Father please be with those today whose lives may be in danger because of the high winds. Watch over them and protect them I pray. In Jesus name. AMEN.
