Journal entry January 24, 2026

We can make a large horse go wherever we want by means of a small bit in its mouth. And a small rudder makes a huge ship turn wherever the pilot chooses to go, even though the winds are strong. In the same way, the tongue is a small thing that makes grand speeches. But a tiny spark can set a great forest on fire. James 3:3-5

Heavenly Father as I read these verses and read in my devotional from James this morning I am reminded of the power of the tongue and our words. Today our thumbs are another form of our tongue as we sometimes too freely text, email or post on media platforms.

Sometimes I wonder if we forget that we have the privilege of being Your mouthpiece. It is interesting that Jesus is the "Word" and stands in stark contrast to how we use words today. Words aren't just spoken over us but have the potential of releasing something in us. Your Word in us can release things like power, authority, correction, courage, peace, wisdom, clarity, and healing, just to name a few.

Heavenly Father help me surrender my mouth today to the mission of Jesus Christ so that I can be a part of releasing Your love in the lives around me. Holy Spirit produce in me Your fruits in the words that I speak. Forgive me Lord for the misuse of my tongue and the words that have done damage to others. Help me grow in this area, in Jesus name I pray. AMEN. AMEN
