Then God said, let there be light, and there was light. Genesis 1:3
"Then God said" was recorded 10 times as God created all that we see and enjoy.
When God said something, it was so.
On the cross Jesus said one word that said it all. "Tetelestai" A term which merchants used when a debt was paid in full. Paid. Settled. Closed.
Translated into english it means "It is finished".
The reality is sometimes we feel like we need to keep adding to what Jesus already completed? Like His work needs our performance to make it stick. Like "finished" means "mostly finished, pending our good behavior."
Jesus on the cross was God "In the beginning". The same God who spoke things into existence, closed our sin debt account and stamped Tetelestai on it. Paid. Settled. Closed.
When Christ died, sin's claim over us died with Him. When He rose, its rule stayed in the grave.
When God says it, it is final!
Thank You Heavenly Father. May the words paid, settled, closed, settle deeply into our souls. People often work nearly all of their lives to pay off debt. I used to kid my father-in-law every time he would buy a different tractor, telling him he was spending our inheritance. I loved his response. He would say, Darwin, I will make sure to leave you with your fair share of debt! Father I thank you that you didn't leave us with debt, You took it from us and settled our account forever. The account is closed. AMEN AMEN. Thank You Jesus.
