For by a single offering He has perfected for all time those who are being sanctified. Hebrews 10:14

Perhaps you've heard the statement "If you fail, try, try again". Well that serves us well as we often have to try multiple times to get things right. But Christ got it right the first time.

Today's verse is so rich in content yet requires us to dig a little to understand everything it means.

Single offering was in contrast to the Old Testament priests who offered daily sacrifices for sin which were never complete in function or purpose.

Christ accomplished with His one time offering what the Old Testament priests could never accomplish. Complete and forever forgiveness.

Imagine a sacrifice that is so powerful that it attones for past, present and future sins. How is that even possible? With man it isn't, but with God it is.

The greek word used for complete means: to consummate, reaching the end-stage, i.e. working through the entire process (stages) to reach the final phase (conclusion).

Complete forgiveness: Jesus paid fully for past, present, and future sins, meaning God declares believers legally free from guilt and condemnation. Just think about that for a while...

While a believer's standing is made perfect forever by Christ, their daily living and growing more like Jesus is an ongoing, lifelong process. That is the process of "being sanctified".

In practice, what should our response to this truth be? We should live with profound peace and active holiness, resting in the finished, eternal work of Christ, while daily growing to match the perfection we already possess in Him. We grow by "abiding" in the Vine. For without Him we can do nothing.

Wow Heavenly Father, what truth You have for us today. Today may we have profound peace and active holiness. May we share this wonderful gift with others today. We have done nothing to deserve this yet You have lavished it upon us. What grace! Amazing Grace! Thank You in Jesus name. AMEN AMEN
