On the day of Pentecost all the believers were meeting together in one place. Suddenly there was a sound from heaven like the roaring of a mighty wind storm, and it filled the house where they were sitting. Acts 2:1-2
50 days prior, the disciple's world fell apart as their Messiah was crucified. Now it's been 10 days since He ascended to His Father.
10 days of waiting, fearful that every knock on the door could mean their arrest. The cross was still fresh in everyones mind. But they were told to wait, so wait they did.
Jesus told them they would be clothed with power, but what did that mean? Then 10 days later, it happened. The sound was hard to describe yet all around heard it and came to see. Fire rested where shame one burned. Languages poured from mouths that weeks earlier trembled in denial.
The doors opened!! Not because they became braver versions of themselves, but because the Promise had arrived. This wasn't adrenaline. They didn't generate the wind, light the flame or manufacture the courage. They received power!
Resurrection life doesn't stay hidden. When the Spirit fills what Christ has already made alive, it moves outward. Not because people feel ready, but because God's authority displaces fear.
The disciples were no more or less than we are. They were just obedient. Weak and trembling no doubt, yet obedient.
Heavenly Father help us to be obedient. Help us to posture ourselves to be clothed with power. Prayer was the posture for the desciples and it is for us as well. O may our time of prayer be a sweet hour of invitation. In Jesus name. AMEN AMEN
