Behold, I send the Promise of My Father upon you; but wait in the city of Jerusalem until you are filled with power from on high. Luke 24:49

Jerusalem was a hotbed. Thousands of people filled the city and you would have been living under a rock to have missed the trial and brutal crucifixion of the man named Jesus. The religious leaders were still a buzz. Much like a beehive that had been knocked to the ground and the bees swarming about.

Jesus met His disciples back on the seashore of Galilee where it all started after His resurrection. After breakfast Jesus took a walk with Peter and had "the talk" that Peter needed. Jesus before His ascension tells His disciples to go back to Jerusalem and there to wait...

Back to Jerusalem!! So they walked back into Jerusalem, back into the streets that still remembered the cross. Back into the same gathering place. And they prayed.

The risen Christ had appeared. The tomb was empty. The commission had been given. And still, He told them to wait. Imagine the first day... energy still high from everything they've seen. The second day..... quieter. By the third or fourth, maybe somebody wondered out loud, when will it happen?

Waiting stretches you. It presses on your need to feel useful. It exposes how quickly you want movement so you can measure progress.

Before power, there was obedience. Before boldness, there was dependence. So they stayed. They kept praying. They believed before they felt anything.

Waiting isn't wasted. It reveals who you trust. They aligned with what Jesus had spoken, and obedience positioned them to receive the Promise... And the Spirit came. Unmistakably by God's initiative, not theirs.

Where might God be asking you to wait instead of rush?

Heavenly Father I pray today that You would help us in this area of waiting. It is not something we are good at. We live in an instant society today where seconds seem like an eternity. Help us to pray during our seasons of waiting and to position ourselves to receive what it is you have for us. I pray in Jesus name. AMEN
