If we go on sinning deliberately after receiving the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins... Hebrews 10:26

Gulp! Reading that verse leaves us with a sense of panic. Don't we all continue to sin? Where does that leave us?

We must remember when Jesus died, sins mastery over us was dealt with. When we received Christ, His resurrected life also resurrected us. What does that mean?

It does not mean that our battle against the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life is over. It also does not mean we're fighting for our spiritual freedom, but rather we are fighting from a position of it. Slavery says you can't do anything but obey the impulse. Resurrection says the old ruler lost its authority.

So when a familiar sin tempts us, we need to pause and remember we are no longer captive to it.

If our verse today is not talking about the times we slip up and fail, what is it talking about? Hebrews 10:26 warns that if a person fully, knowingly, and permanently rejects Jesus Christ after learning the truth of the gospel, no other sacrifice is left to save them.

The verse is not talking about a normal moral failure, a bad habit, or stumbling into sin. It describes apostasy—a formal, permanent, and unrepentant decision to walk away from Jesus.

The original language in the Bible points to an ongoing, stubborn lifestyle of defiance, rather than a single mistake.

Jesus is God's final payment for sin. If a person decides that Jesus is worthless and rejects Him, they refuse the only rescue plan available. There is no backup savior.

This doesn't give us a license to keep on sinning, however, Christ's death is sufficient to cover even our future sins. But the process of our sanctification should mean that we are sininng less and less.

Heavenly Father thank you that even our future sins are coverd in the blood of Christ, but help us Lord to walk with fear and trembling. May our love for You be so strong that it becomes the driver for all of our actions. May we have a walk worthy of You, fully pleasing You in all that we do. In Jesus name. Amen. Amen.
