Examine me, O Lord, and prove me; try my mind and my heart. Psalm 26:2

Have you ever read a portion of scripture and not been able to relate to it? Psalm 26 is one of those psalms for me. It is a Psalm of David but as I read it he seems like he is completely out of touch with reality.

We each know the battle that we fight, which is common unto man. We are not unique in our fight against thoughts that would in no way measure up to the scrutiny of a Holy God.

But.... What if this psalm were just a snap shot of a single incident or time in David's life? Perhaps a time where he had been accused of something that he knew he was innocent of. Then it would all make a little more sense and definitely be relatable.

I myself am guilty of hearing part of a story , or one side of a story, and thinking a certain way about someone, only to later find out the whole story and realize how wrong I was in prejudging that person.

Hanging on the computor monitor in my office is a sticky note which has a couple of qoutes written on it that I like to remind myself of. "Everyone is superior to me in someway," and "everyone is fighting a battle I know nothing about".

So maybe Psalm 26 is more relatable than I think. Maybe I am prejudging because I only see one side of the story. Maybe it is a good reminder to me that I am too quick to pass judgment when I don't have all the facts or know all of the circumstances.

Maybe you can relate and are guilty of doing the same thing. Together let us be swift to hear, slow to speak, and leave judgment up to the one who sees all and knows all.

Heavenly Father thank you for this reminder today. Help us to be quick to give people the benefit of the doubt knowing that only You see their hearts and know their circumstances. Help us to show mercy and love as You have to us. I pray in Jesus name.
