Word for the day

8/31/25

When he (Saul) turned his back to leave Samuel, God gave him another heart. And all these signs came to pass that day. 1 Samuel 10:9

I love just meditating on the thought that God gave him another heart. Thinking how many times in life we would we be better off if God just gave us a new heart. A heart that longed for Him. A heart that was totally committed to His service and free from all fear.

And then it came time for Samuel to anoint Saul as Israel's first king. The man whom God had put a new heart into...

So Samuel shows up and calls all of the tribes of Israel out, tribe by tribe, until he gets to the tribe of Benjamin to the family of Kish, but where is Saul? He's nowhere to be found...

So they inquired of the Lord as to where this man could be, and the Lord said, "behold, he has hidden himself among the baggage." verse 22

The man to whom God had given a new heart, humanly speaking was scared to death to step into his new role. Even with Saul's new heart he needed a continual strengthening of the Spirit of God to fulfill his role as king.

What a thought for us. Even though God were to give us a new heart we also must continue, moment by moment, day by day, to rely on the strength of the Holy Spirit in our lives.

How often it is, in our own weakness we also would hide among the baggage.

Heavenly Father we pray that you would renew a right spirit within each of us. A spirit that understands our weakness and depends upon you moment by moment. A spirit that constantly sets our gaze beyond self and onto the One who gives strength to the inner man. Often the task before us seems overwhelming, and in our own strength it is, but praise God that we can do all things through Christ who strengthens us.
