Did I keep my heart pure for nothing? Did I keep myself innocent for no reason? Psalm 73:13
The Psalmist writes: look at these wicked people enjoying a life of ease while their riches multiply… I get nothing but trouble all day; every morning brings me pain.
These fat cats have everything their hearts could ever wish for! They don't have troubles like other people; they're not plagued with problems like everyone else.
As I reflect on the mindset of the one who wrote this Psalm, I am saddened with such short sightedness. To think that having this world's riches solves everything is a gross misunderstanding.
Zest for living, inner contentment, come not from that which can so easily fade away. It comes from intimately knowing and being in relationship with the Creator and Sustainer of all life.
Everything in this life will soon pass away and then what? Many with the riches of this world are so empty, they are constantly searching for something to fill their emptiness.
The absolute most fulfilling thing one can have in this life, which will also carry on into the next life, is a relationship with the great "I AM".
There are those who live in marble palaces who don't have the joy and contentment of some living in tin huts with dirt floors.
Where are you in life? What gets you up in the morning? Where does your joy and contentment come from? Do you look at what others have with the allusion that they have no problems, that their life is perfect? If only I had what they had I would be happy....
If you think your purity is in vain, then it might be, because the Lord sees your heart. Let me assure you that "things" we sacrifice in this life will not compare to hearing "well done thou good and faithful servant" in the next life.
Heavenly Father thank you so much that we can truly know contentment and peace through relationship with You. Riches are not how much we have in the bank, riches are how deep our relationship is with You. The world can never give us what experience in You. Thank you for our Lord Jesus Christ which makes relationship with you possible. In His name we pray. AMEN
