Search me, O God, and know my heart! Try me and know my thoughts! And see if there be any grievous way in me, and lead me in the way of everlasting! Psalm 139:23-24
Heavenly Father I have prayed this many times in my life. Not because I'm sure You wont find anything, on the contrary, because I know sin lies deep within me and only Your holy examination can expose it.
I find it interesting that David just before requesting this, declared a complete hatred for those who align with evil. Perhaps this is one of the reasons David was declared to be a man after Your own heart. Maybe David being a type of Christ, was able to see the evil for what it was. A rejection of You. David's hatred was against evil and not a personal anger or hatred of individuals.
Either way Lord it seems David's request for You to search him and know his heart, was a personal plea for self revelation. After all David had already declared that while he was in his mothers womb You saw him and had a hand in personally knitting his very being together. You already knew everything there was to know about him.
So like David Lord, my desire is for You to reveal unto me anything I might be harboring within that grieves You. Any thought, any feeling, any act of withholding or intention that could turn into an act if the circumstances were just right. Once exposed I will confess it, that I may be led in the way everlasting. In Jesus name I ask it. AMEN.
