If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. Galatians 5:25

The pace of life today is very fast, which makes the reality of living this verse seem even more difficult. Living by the Spirit and walking in the Spirit seem very calculated and much slower than we are used to.

We so often would rather sprint, moving at our own pace, and then ask God to bless it afterwards. This verse means someone else is setting the pace.

As you think about life there seems to be an undertow that is intentionally pulling us in the wrong direction. I am not just talking about the old flesh nature that is contrasted by Pauls description of living by the Spirit rather than the flesh. But there seems to be an intentional greasing of the slope so to speak which intentionally keeps us going through life at breakneck speed. A force working against the often slow walk of the Holy Spirit.

The Holy Spirit desires to lead us but not usually with volumn or speed, but rather presence. As we read scripture maybe there is a verse that won't loosen its grip on us. Maybe there is a conviction that presses gently but persistently. Maybe there is a wisdom confirmed by other voices that love Jesus too.

In this sense we all need hearing aids. We all need a slower more intentional pace. Since we live by the Spirit.... let us walk in the Spirit...

May the Lord help us to stop racing through life and help us to make the decided choice to slow down and follow the trail ahead. It reminds me of my days spent in the timber hunting. Days when it may take an hour to move a hundred yards due to the intentionality of being quiet and listening closely. If I moved to quickly surely I would step on a stick or crispy leaf that would give my presence away. Those were valued days when a heightened sense of awareness made my surroundings come alive. The reality is they were alive all the time but my normal pace kept me from enjoying them and the beauty they held.

Thank You Heavenly Father for the reminder today that since we live by the Spirit we are to walk with the Spirit. Help us to slow down and take in our surroundings and all that You are trying to say to us. Thank You for the Holy Spirit in our lives. What a blessing that You would take up residency within us. What a tragedy that we so often don't live by it. Help us this day I pray in Jesus name. Amen. Amen
