For God, who said, "Let light shine out of darkness," made His light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. 2 Corinthians 4:6
Before God said let there be light, there was darkness. The darkness couldn't be anything other than what it was, it knew no difference nor would have had the power to do anything about it.
God’s creative command in Genesis 1:3 brought light into the darkness that covered the unformed world. Paul identifies the same sovereign power at work in salvation. As God ordered creation by His word, He brings spiritual life and truth to those darkened by sin. Christ, the true Light, shines in a world that cannot overcome Him.
Ezekiel 36:26 says "And I will give you a new heart, and I will put a new spirit in you. I will take out your stony, stubborn heart and give you a tender, responsive heart.'
Perhaps it is the amount of time I am spending in the book of Romans lately, but I have become acutely aware of my role in salvation. If God had not said, "let there be light", in my heart I would still be walking in darkness.
Before God spoke that into my heart I was as most of us, we are taught; try harder, do better, pray more consistently, manage our reactions. We're handed a checklist before we're told about presence. We must learn that we're not fighting for freedom anymore, but rather we're learning to live from it.
The same spirit who raised Christ from the dead is living in us. Not visiting, not assisting occasionally, living. He has also raised us from the dead, hallelujah, and He is at work in our lives. "Let there be light" are such powerful words and I am glad God has spoken them into my life or I would still be walking in darkness!
Thank You Heavenly Father that You are light and have shown Yourself into our lives or we would still be walking in darkness. Help us today to walk in the light and shine for Your glory. Help us to be a beacon that directs people to You. I pray in Jesus name. AMEN AMEN
