I don't mean to say that I have already achieve these things or that I have already reached perfection. But I press on to possess that perfection for which Christ Jesus first possessed me. Philippians 3:12

I press on to possess that perfection... The greek word teleoó is used in this verse to capture the idea of possesing perfection. It is much like a pirates telescope unfolding or telesccoping out one section at a time. With each extension the image is brought closer, more into view until finally the full image is in view.

We press on striving towards the perfection of our Savior. As we press on, the telescope extends and we can see a little more of the goal each day. We don't lay hold of it all at once Paul says, but we press on to lay hold of it eventually.

That is a pretty good description of what the life of a child of God should look like. Striving towards, focusing more intently on, the perfection of our Savior every day that we may become more like Him.

Heavenly Father I pray today that we each would have our telescope aimed on our Savior, Jesus Christ. That He would be more in focus today than He was yesterday. That we would become more like Him daily. I pray in Jesus name. AMEN
