Like newborn babies, you must crave pure spiritual milk so that you will grow into a full experience of salvation. 1 Peter 2:2
Grow into a full experience of salvation? What happened to 2 Corinthians 5:17 which says "therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new."
Do morel mushrooms pop up or do they slowly grow? It's been my experience that they just pop up. One day they're not there, the next day they are.
Frustrated # confused # disappointed # disillusioned #.... Maybe some of those describe your spiritual growth. You have read 2 Corinthians 5:17 and expected your salvation to be like a mushroom. You became frustrated, confused, disappointed, even disillusioned as the battle with your old self seemed to rage on.
Well I have good news for you today. 2 Corinthians 5:17 in the original language says "the new has emerged". We are not like a morel mushroom. New life (salvation) emerges when one places their faith in Christ but we grow into the full experince of salvation as we feed on the right things. I like the way the 1 Peter 2:2 reads in the greek. "Divinely reasonable pure milk crave".
So new life emerges and then grows as we feed on God's word, which is our divinely reasonable pure milk. So we are to get rid of all evil behavior. We are to be done with all deceit, hypocrisy, jealousy, and unkind speech. Those are the old things that we are to lay to rest, and as we crave the "divinely reasonable pure milk" of God's word we will grow into our salvation and one day fully experience our completed salvation.
Heavenly Father thank you for these reminders today. We all fall woefully short some days of "our" expectations and we need to be reminded that salvation is a process. As we grow we look forward to our completed salvation, but until then help us to feed on the right things. Help us to belly up to the right feeding trough and loose the desire for the "old" things we fed on before our salvation emerged. I pray in Jesus name. AMEN
