Like newborn babies, you must crave spiritual milk so that you may grow into a full experience of salvation. Cry out for this nourishment, now that you have had a taste of the Lord's kindness. 1 Peter 2:2-3
Grow into salvation... wait, I got my salvation ticket punched long ago, didn't I?
The Greek preposition "εἰς" is primarily used to denote motion or direction towards a place, person, or thing. So you may grow into is "εἰς". It is a verb that stands before a noun meaning it describes the action which leads you into....
Milk, grow, experience... A baby is born, it grows, it becomes an adult. Peter contends that just because people grow into a bigger bodies, they are not necessarily experiencing adulthood. Being an adult means more than growing out of a babies body. It means there is a whole new level of cravings and behaviors that should follow being an adult.
So it is with salvation. Peter says being in Christ must mean (will be evidenced by) hunger, growth and muturity. We were saved. We are being saved. We will be saved. To be stuck at the stage I entered the faith for my whole life would be a tradegy. I would have missed so much. Because I did taste of the kindness of the Lord, I craved more.
He gives more, and there by we grow. Our growth will be complete when we stand in the presence of our Lord in heaven. Until then we cryout for more. We receive more and we continue the process of salvation on a daily basis. Like all growth, sometimes there are pains, but those are good signs and we should be encouraged that we are in the process of salvation.
So Dear one. Where are you in your salvation experience? As a baby cries for more I pray you are craving the nourishment of the word of God and growing as you take it in. Babies are born into families and have caring people around them to help them navigate their growing experience. I pray you are taking advantage of the family God has place you in to help navigate your growing experience too.
Heavening Father thank you for the nourishment of Your word. Thank for new birth and growth and for the salvation which will one day be complete as we are in Your presence. We love how You love and feed us. Help us to continue to grow into Your likeness I pray in Jesus name.
