Mercy showcase house!

Years ago when I was in the building trades every year there was a project called a "Mercy Showcase House." I think it was sponsored by Mercy Hospital perhaps, thus the name. Contractors would bid a room in the house where they would showcase their finest work as they remodeled this old house. Then the house would be on display for the public to behold its beauty and craftsmanship.

Today's verse pictures us as God's Mercy Showcase House.

"So God can point to us in all future ages as examples of the incredible wealth of His grace and kindness toward us, as shown in all He has done for us who are united with Christ Jesus." Ephesians 2:7

After all "though we were dead because of our sins, He gave us life when He raised Christ from the dead. For He raised us from the dead along with Christ and seated us with Him in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ Jesus." vs 5-6

We are God's display of the power and magnitude of His grace and mercy for all ages. Some would look at the houses that were remodeled in the mercy showcase and think perhaps it would be better to tear them down and start over. I have wondered many times why God didn't do the same with us. We were so dilapidated that we were described as dead. Yet by His grace, He now puts us on display as His prize workmanship for all the ages to see.

"God saved you by His grace when you believed. And you can't take credit for this; it is a gift from God." vs 8

Grace is one of the most beautiful and central themes of the Christian faith. Many of us begin our walk with God aware that Grace saved us, but as time goes on, we quietly slip into the habit of trying to earn what has already been given. We begin to measure our relationship with God by our performance rather than by His generosity.

Heavenly Father help us to walk in Your grace today. We did nothing to deserve it and we can do nothing to keep it. We simply are the beneficiaries of Your goodness and kindness. You reached for us when we could not even reach for you. Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound that saved a wretch like me! Thank You in Jesus name. AMEN
