And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to His purpose for them. Romans 8:28

The Greek word used for the phrase "everything works together" is senergiō. It is where we get our word synergy. It is the concept that the combined action of two or more agents or substances produces a total greater effect than the sum of their individual, independent effects.

Put in context with today's verse, God is not only saying that all things "can" come together for the good of those who love Him and are called according to His purpose, but "all things" in their entirety, or combination, actually produce something greater than we would've otherwise experienced.

An example from the Bible of this is Joseph. From the outside it looked like all of these random bad things were happening to Joseph. But when Joseph finally stood before his brothers, years of suffering behind him, he could've crushed them with his new power. Instead, he wept and said, "it was not you who sent me here but God.". Joseph re-narrated his story through the lens of God's sovereignty.

Joseph was not the man he was, and in the place he was, in spite of his circumstances, but rather we see the synergy of his life. Things working in combination with one another to produce something greater.

Our stories are still being written. The chapter we may be experiencing may feel like a betrayal, a pit, or a prison. But God is not absent from these pages. He is the Author, and He writes all things, even the painful things, into a coherent redemptive story for those who trust Him.

Thank you Heavenly for this reminder today. May we see that "all things" are being used by You to produce a greater finished product. The process of refinement is a painful one yet produces something beautiful. Help us to trust the process today I pray in Jesus name. AMEN
