I tell you, her sins - and they are many - have been forgiven, so she has shown Me much love. But a person who is forgiven little shows only a little love. Luke 7:47
Jesus having accepted an invitation to one of the religious leaders house for a meal taught him a valuable life lesson. Our forgiveness should translate into love for others. It should be seen in the ways that we interact with those around us.
A woman described as an immoral Woman from the city heard Jesus was going to be at this Pharisees's house and invited herself in and sat at His feet and washed His feet with her tears and wiped them with her hair. She also had purchased a very expensive perfume and was anointing Him with it.
The Pharisee took issue with Jesus allowing this immoral woman to touch him. Jesus said to him you didn't even allow me the common courtesy of water to wash the dust off my feet. You didn't greet me with a holy kiss. You didn't provide me olive oil to anoint my head. Yet this woman has not ceased to wash and kiss my feet and anoint my body.
A person who is forgiven little shows only a little love... How easy it is for us to lose sight of the sins we have been forgiven. How often we have a "road rage" mentality with the people that cross our paths. The other day I watched a person parallel park on a busy City Street. A few cars were sitting patiently behind him as he maneuvered back into the space. As soon as he got backed in, the car that was right behind him started to pull away and gave him a blast of the horn just as if to say "you slowed me down and I don't appreciate it." I thought to myself how we can be gracious when we're forced to be, but as soon as we don't have to be we let our true colors show.
Heavenly Father forgive us for the times we fail to live out of the abundance of forgiveness we have received. When we are impatient and unkind to others in our life. When we fail to show common courtesies because our love is so little. May we pause and reflect today on the forgiveness we have in Jesus Christ our Lord and may we Love others as a reflection of it. I pray in Jesus name. Amen
