As Saul turned and started to leave, God gave him a new heart, and all of Samuel's signs were fulfilled that day. 1 Samuel 10:9
I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh. Ezekiel 36:26
When God calls us to a task we need not worry. He will give us what we need to carry it out. Even if it is a new heart.
I love portions of scripture where I see God doing specific things. It helps me pray with confidence. What He has done before I know He can do again. I pray often for non-believing friends or loved ones, that God would remove their heart of stone and give them a heart of flesh. A heart that can and will believe.
One of Paul's prayers was that believers would not loose heart, meaning the zeal and passion for the good work that God had begun in them. Proverbs 4:23 warns us to guard our hearts: "Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life."
Spiritually, the heart represents the inner core, seat of emotions, will, and intellect—the "control center" of human personality, thoughts, and intentions. It is considered the deepest self, often synonymous with the soul, conscience, and the place of spiritual encounter, love, compassion, and decision-making, rather than just physical emotion.
It seems like the "breatsplate of righteousness" protects the most important part of our being, the heart. How can a young man keep his way (heart) pure? By obeying the word of God.
So whether God gives a new heart directly like He did Saul, or whether He gives a new heart through obedience to His word. It is God alone who can and does give us new hearts.
Lord I pray today for a heart that is pure. A heart that is up to the task you have given me. A heart that remains strong in the face of adversity. A heart that puts other first. In Jesus name I pray. AMEN
