"What are you willing to give me if I deliver Him to you?" And they counted out 30 pieces of silver. Matthew 26:15
The will of the flesh is so powerful. Judas had been with Jesus for several years now. He had witnesses so many miracles and heard so many Divine teachings. He had returned with the other disciples from buying food to witness Jesus having a conversation with a Samaritan woman. Hearing Jesus say to the woman if you had known who it was that ask you for a drink you would've asked Him for a drink and He would've given you Living Water.
Did not the same offer apply to Judas that applied to all the others. The fact that Judas could be so near to Jesus and yet not drink from the water Christ offered is scary to me. None was lost except the son of perdition....
Greed and pride are the downfall of many. Many walk away from Jesus disillusioned. What Jesus offers doesn't satisfy the flesh, it only satisfies the spirit. If you come to Jesus only for what He can give to you in the physical sense you will be one of the ones who leaves disillusioned. But if you come truly seeking living water that will become a fountain within you welling up and running over in the spiritual sense, you will be most satisfied.
Judas had surely been one of the disciples sent out to preach the kingdom of God and returned to tell wonderful stories, yet he was to betray Him. Perhaps Judas was tired of not having a place to lay his head. Tired of not having regular income and the security many seek in this world. Perhaps he himself had become disillusioned because he was expecting a Messiah who would set up His kingdom and free the Jewish nation from it oppressors. When it became apparent Jesus was not that Messiah, Judas accepted 30 pieces of silver to betray Him. Judas' choice left him conflicted but not convicted. Surely if he had repented like Peter he would've been forgiven.
"What are you willing to give me if I deliver Him to you?" What shall a man give in exchange for his soul? Silver doesn't satisfy. Nothing in this world satisfies. Only Jesus satisfies.
Thank You Jesus for being the Living Water that satisfies the longing soul. Thank you for being the Rock that gushes forth Living Water. Forgive me for the times in my life when I let the flesh rule over my spirit. Thank you for going the way it had been written that You would go. Your obedience led to our righteousness. Thank You. AMEN
